BLOG/ NEWSLETTER ONCE OVER
BLOG
After a thoroughly enjoyable interview and some great feedback from the episode, we thought this was an opportunity to invite Alex to give our newsletter the once over.
She came back with some ideas on how to improve the email which landed in your inbox and we thought we’d share them. (If it didn’t you can sign up for these here.)
Fortunately, it had not gone out and it was not perfect.
“The header image is a bit pixelated on desktop, so I'd check the image size.”
Sure enough, it did look a bit pixelated. We had dropped in the image we use for socials - 500px wide - which wasn’t quite cutting it on email. An additional bonus of this was the new wider (1,000px) image stretched to the edges of the email which was really bothering me with the previous version. A double-win for Alex.
Alex wasn’t done there, she also had a suggestion to generate a response from these emails…
“I'd consider changing the 'Feedback' headline into a call to action. You've definitely got the scope in your brand tone to be a little playful. Otherwise, you could always do something like: *Do More >tell us what you want more of< ...*”
This was a nice suggestion but I hit a creative block on it. A flick through Webster Thesaurus and the Early Learning Book of Synonyms proved fruitless so I decided to develop this blogpost to help ideas come to the fore ( / procrastinate) but as yet inspiration is not forthcoming.
Alex really hit her stride in the final rounds. She softened us up with a compliment and then his us with a couple of good suggestions.
“I love the topical reference to Glastonbury, and if you could always try and share an episode in context to a current topic, I think it's really smart.”
Oh, stop it…
“I'd consider dropping the date from the review, and I don't use a screen reader, so can't see alt text, but does your review have it? If not, I think you'd be better off just adding a boxed text element.”
Good thinking, as you can see from the newsletter, we took this on board and a tight little text box replaced the grainy image.
“Add a call to action before the footer to listen to the episode. I'd do separate links for each podcast platform so people can click on the platform they prefer (we are an incredibly lazy species).”
We are indeed, and nowhere is that more apparent than the Do More Good Newsdesk. However we bow to Alex’s knowledge and dropped in some links to the various platforms we publish to.
Overall, it was really helpful and you can see our final version here.
